Pictures, Pictures everywhere!

As the mother of 4 kids, you can imagine that I am drowning in pictures. TONS of pictures. I went through them a few years ago and tried to catalog them by date. It's a good thing I did that, because looking at them these past few days I've had a hard time remembering even the year they were taken. I've had to look on the back and check the date.

I told my dear hubby Rob that I wanted a nice printer/scanner combo for Christmas and he got me one. I was so happy! Now I can scan all of those pictures (that I took before I had all my negatives put onto cds and went digital) into the computer and organize them chronologically. I'm also thinking about getting some kind of external harddrive and uploading all my pics to that and only leaving a few of my favorites on the actual computer. It's getting old and tired and Rob will shoot me if he has to buy more memory for the danged thing!

So, for the past week I've been scanning and organizing pictures to my computer. It's been fun. I've come across some long lost photos. I found my senior photos and 2 pictures of me as a toddler. Jordyn was in the room with me when I was scanning some high school pics of me and I came across my junior? picture. I showed it to Jordyn and asked her who it was, she said she didn't know. I told her it was her mom and she was just amazed. She sat there by me for a long while and looked at all the pictures with me. It was so much fun. I also came across a few pictures of my dad and one of my sister Chantel when she was about 5. What a cutie she was!

I also got alot of Si and Jordyn's baby pictures onto the computer. Once all the pics are on the computer I plan to upload them to my photobucket account, so in case there is a major catastrophe I will be able to have access to all my photos and not loose them all. That is something I think about all the time, loosing pictures of my kids.

I don't have very many pictures of Si as a baby and I feel bad about that. I was young and broke and didn't have a camera. I would borrow my moms camera and take pictures sporadically. A few years ago I was at Mom's house and she had a big box of pictures out. I went through them and she had one or 2 rolls of Si. I asked if I could borrow them to make copies and was so happy to find them! So, Mom, if you ever read this, I have those pictures scanned and you can have them back! It's only been, oh, 2 or 3 years!

I really need to go back up to moms and dig through the pictures again and bring back some of all of my family and scan them, I'd really like to have copies and be able to look at them with my kids. Speaking of family photos, I shoud talk to my mil, Jan, and get some pics of Rob and his sisters for my kids to enjoy while I'm at it. We all love looking at pictures!

So, post a comment and tell me how you organize your pictures, digitial or hardcopy.

Hey! I just did a post on photo organization recently! I'm amazed at your patience to scan in all of your prints. Good grief...I'm pretty sure my scanner would burst into flames if I tried doing that with all my pictures! I'm content to leave them in their albums with the film negatives stored in my bank's safe deposit box. But now that I think of it...film negatives degrade over time and so do prints. Hmmm...maybe I'd better warm up my scanner? Like I need another project...

Scanning pictures to your computer can be so tedious. I hope you don't go crazy like me! I thought I would be scanning pictures forever! I have gotten to the point of making folders for my kids for each month of their first year and then each year after that. I am trying to get organized myself. I still have a long way to go! Good luck to you! Oh and thanks for posting to my blog. I was wondering if anyone was still reading it! AND WElcome to the wonderful world of Blogging! Hope you have a great day!
