New Year's Eve

hmmm...I really don't have much to say. Another New Years Eve and I'm stuck at work all by my lonesome. One of these years I won't have to work New Years Eve and get to stay home with my family.

The only thing I can think of that happened today was Max and I played Battleship and he kicked my butt. He didn't even cheat! (He's a notorious cheater!) He was quite proud of himself.

SNOW!!

...not something you see very often in The George!

Shhh! don't tell my neighbors I took pictures of their palm trees at 12:30 at night!

On another note. Si was playing basketball today and ended up in InstaCare with 4 stitches right above his eyebrow. I was in such a hurry I didn't think to take my camera (imagine that!) he is definitely going to have a black eye and it's really really swollen. Oh, well, he's a tough kid.

The Rules

Sooo....for the past few weeks I've promised myself I'd be better at posting on my blog in 2011 than I did in 2010.

I came across the blog of a girl I went to high school with and her first post made alot of sense to me. She basically said that her life is really busy but she wanted to document her life with her kids better. She came up with a few rules to make it easy on her, but still have the documentation of the little and big things that are happening in her family: get it down, document it, and throw in some things I want my kids to know. Here are her (and my) rules:

Peach Pickin' with the Fam!

Rob came home from running errands and told me the Church Farm was letting people go out and pick (or glean) peaches for free. I had heard they had an awesome crop this year! We decided to pack up the kids and go out. We weren't going to get very many because we still have a ton of jelly from canning from previous years, but we thought it would be a fun family activity so we went out.

We picked a small cooler full and then decided to run to town and get some bags or boxes and get a some more. We ended up with alot more peaches than we bargained for! I guess I'll be making peach cobbler for dessert tomorrow and I think I'm gonna can some just as sliced peaches and probably freeze some for smoothies and stuff like that. Rob also has his heart set on peaches and cream. YUM!!

I think the kids had a good time and it made for some fun family time, which is always a good thing! On the way back to the truck Jake kept saying Yay for Peaches!! Max was very particular about which peaches he picked, they had to be perfectly ripe and big, he didn't want any sub par peaches in his bag! We told him he could pick some that were not quite ripe so they could ripen at the house but he was having non of that! He is a funny kid.

Anyway, that was our Saturday. And I'm mad at myself for forgetting my camera! GRRR!!!

What I've done the past few nights

This is all DigiScrapping

This is the first page I've done in MONTHS.
I quickly followed a tutorial as I did this one, because I couldn't remember how to use the program it had been so long!
These pictures were taken in February of 2010

This one was taken sometime in 2002

I'm guessing this one was Fall 2001

(I was really horrible at keeping track of dates on pics back then!)

All you have to do is visit this blog and become a follower and win a FREE Cricut cartridge. Way too easy, right!

3 out of 4 sick

The Saturday before Easter Jordyn told us that she had a bad sore throat. I ended up taking her to InstaCare and they confirmed Strep Throat. The next Thursday (I think) Jake wasn't looking like he felt too good, so I got him to the dr. Same thing. Yesterday morning Max tells me that he has a sore throat so I decide to keep him home and take him to the dr. I couldn't get him in til later in the day and by the time we go there I was thinking he was just faking so he could stay home, but no, he has it to! Fun, fun times at our house! Oh, and I was talking to Si the other day and he told me that he had a sore throat before Jordyn had hers but never said anything to me! So, I'm pretty sure he had it, too. I also talked to Rob today and he was going to make himself a drs appointment because he was loosing his voice again. Every year he usually gets sick and looses his voice and has to go on major antibiotics to get rid of his ear infections and bronchitis. He already went through it this year, but it looks like the kids got him sick again!

All I can say is I hope I survive! LOL

BBQ for Josh

My bil, Josh, joined the Marines a while ago and when he was done with Boot Camp he came back to good ol' St George for a visit. It was great to see him again and go to Jan and Dave's for some good food. Unfortunately, Josh didn't feel well the night of the bbq so we didn't see much of him, but we all enjoyed yummy food! Here are some pictures...

I was too lazy to scan my pic of Josh into the computer

The guys making sure the steaks are seasoned just right.
They sure were good!!

Josh did NOT feel well

Updates and some rambling thrown in for good measure!

I know, I know, I know!!! Just about every time I put a new post up I tell you all how much I've ignored the ol' blog and promise to do better! One thing working in my favor to do better about that is I deleted all my facebook games and blocked them all. They were taking up WAY too much of my time and I decided enough is enough!! I signed up for facebook to keep in touch with family and friends, not to play games. So now, hopefully, I'll have more time to blog and maybe even scrapbook some :0)

Ok, on to our update. I'll try to remember everything ;0) A few weekends ago we bought a boat. We got it for practically nothing, because the previous owners didn't winterize it and the engine is cracked. Bad for them, good for us, since I just happen to be married to a mechanic who can fix those kinds of things. Also, we (meaning he) found an engine for alot cheaper than we were expecting. Now all that's left to do is for him to find the time to put it in and then it's clean up the boat time. I can NOT wait to get out on the lake this summer. We have missed boating alot.

Now on to the biggest change in our lives. Rob has rented his own shop and is now mechanicing (is that a word? lol) out of it and not our garage. You do not know how happy I am to be able to pull into my driveway and not have to wonder how many cars are gonna be in my way and where am I supposed to park?? So far he is staying busy and we are working on getting business licenses and all the fun stuff that entails. Oh, the joys of self employment.

Last Saturday Jordyn woke up with a bad sore throat. We headed to InstaCare and they told us it was Strep Throat. Yesterday Jake wasn't feeling well so I took him into the dr and he has it as well. 2 out of 4 sick. I guess it could be worse!

We had a quiet, but fun, Easter. I've never been to into coloring easter eggs and having hunts, but I'm lucky because my mil, Jan, likes to do all that stuff. Soooo, the Thursday before Easter I boiled the kids' eggs and dropped the kids off at Grandma's house and they had a ball dying eggs with her! Then on Easter morning she hid all the eggs in her yard and we went over there to find them. I guess the kids had told her and Grandpa to make it harder this year and boy they did! It took them quite a while to find all the eggs. After the hunt we went home for a few hours and then came back to eat a nice dinner. It was a great day. I forgot my camera, I'll have to get those pictures from Jan and post later.

Next I have to tell about all the babies that have been and will be born this year. First up is James Don, born in January (or the beginning of Feb). Next is Aleksa Lee, born just a few days ago. She was a whopping 9 + lbs! Her mom, Ashten is a tiny little thing, I don't know how she did it. Then in just a little over 2 weeks my sister, Bridget is due with her first baby, a boy. I am so excited for them and can't wait to meet him. Then Dean and Melissa are expecting their first baby, a girl, right around the end of April as well. Wow, babies, babies everywhere!!

Oh what fun we have!!

The weekend of Jake's birthday, Chantel and Bracken came to down to celebrate with us and visit for a few days. Unfortunately, I started coming down with a nasty cold and didn't feel too well, so we didn't do much. One night Rob snapped this picture of our sisterly fun, each of us playing on our laptops!! What dorks! We did take the kids to the park on one of the days, my next post is going to be pictures of that. I have some good ones!

What I did today...

This morning I made these and then I made this for dinner. YUM!! I even froze the leftover beans to use later on. I am kinda proud of myself.

I am really loving Erin's blog and I'm seriously thinking about buying her cookbook. My family has loved almost every recipe that I have cooked of hers. Go check it out, I bet you'll find some new family favorites.

Wacky hair day

I'm sure all moms of elementary aged children know that Dr Seuss' birthday was this week. Wednesday, I think? All week long most, if not all, elementary schools have been celebrating Dr Seuss week. Today was wacky hair day. I think the pictures speak for themselves!

Max's new favorite thing is to make funny faces when he gets his picture taken. I think it's rubbed off on Jordyn. I think she was trying to be scary. Jake is sporting his Cat in the Hat hat he made at Headstart.

Valentine's Day

Here is a picture of the gorgeous flowers Rob had sent to me at work for Valentine's Day. I love them. Thank you, honey (I know, I'm really late posting this!)

Thankful Thursday

I am so thankful for my 4 wonderful kids and their Great Grandparents, Max and LaVoy. I love that my kids are able to know and love their Great Grandparents. We are going to visit them next weekend and they are so excited. We love you, Grandma & Grandpa!

My baby, er, um, my big boy turns 5!

JAKE TURNS 5!

I just absolutely love that picture!!

I can't believe it. My baby, my youngest little bean is now a big kid of 5 years old! I'm so happy for him, but so sad for me at the same time.

His thing lately is to raise his fist in the air and yell, YES!! if he's excited or happy about something. He is such a joy to be around, always happy, smiley and good natured (except when he gets sent back to home when we play "bubble" Trouble!)

When I asked what kind of cake and ice cream he wanted he informed me very quickly, I might add, that he wanted CHOCOLATE everything. No problem, son, I can accommodate that request!

A perfect shot of him blowing out the candles! (snff, sniff. I'm gonna go cry now...)

We had a great day with great people, food and gifts! Grandma Jan & Grandpa Dave came over, as well as Aunt Ruth and Uncle Chris. Aunt Chantel and Bracken came down from Delta and spent a few days, so that was really fun! Thanks to those of you who made it, we are so glad you could come!

Thankful Thursday

I have been meaning to join in on Thankful Thursday for a while now and finally remembered on Thursday! I should start getting posts ready before hand and schedule them to post on Thursdays!

This week I am thankful for this cutie who is 5 YEARS OLD!! (but still my baby)

Gonna go do a post about his birthday party tonight!

SEP's aka Parent-Teacher Conferences

It really annoys Rob that they call Parent/Teacher Conferences Sep's now. I think it's funny how annoyed he is about it. Anyway. this week Jordyn and Max both get out of school at 1 :15 everyday and yesterday we went to their meetings. They are both doing well. Jordyn got x's or +'s in all of her area's. Basically that means A's and B's. She is reading above level and gets along well with her classmates.

Max is also doing well. I was really worried about his reading at the beginning of the year, but he went into Reading Recovery (which he LOVED) and it helped him so much. He is now reading on grade level, when before he was below grade level. The only issue his teacher (and I) seem to have is he needs to sloooow down and think about what he is doing. Sometimes he doesn't comprehend what he's reading, because he is reading to fast. Also, his handwriting could be better, but that also goes along with slowing down! But, that kid has always been on the move. He does really well in math, he gets almost 100% on all of his tests. I'd like to say he gets that from his mom, but I don't think so, that's his dad's genes.

It's been nice having the kids home early this week. Next month we have spring break, I'm really looking forward to that. Yay, I'll get to sleep in!

Blasts from the past

I am using Rob's laptop because mine decided it needed a new hard drive. All the pictures that are on this computer are pretty old and I've been having fun looking at them, so I thought I'd share a few....
So Sweet!

The Funnies

The other day Max and Si were having a conversation about respecting your elders. Max then told me that he is supposed to respect his "olderlings" LOL! So funny. I think it comes from Star Wars and "younglings"

Just a minute ago Jake brought me a card. He was waving it and saying, "mom, look what I found!" I asked him where he got it and he told me, "um, in my room and then in my hand." Silly boy.

So sweet

I'm going to try to go through the pictures I've taken in the last few months and try to update the blog with them. I saw these pictures today and thought they were so cute!

Of all the kids, Max was the one who loved the Christmas tree the most. The first thing he did every morning was ask if he could turn the lights on on the Christmas tree. He would sit on the couch next to it and just stare at it. One night he got his pillow and a book and sat there and read until he fell asleep.
